Goodbye Brazil… Hello Home

Today is my last day in Fortaleza, Brazil. Although I have not done much tourism wise (not exactly a tourist after all), I have enjoyed the warmth and hospitality of this great country. The past month and a half I met family and friends that I haven't seen for a couple of years, experienced rain that I have never ever seen in my life, enjoyed great food and simply relaxed.…

When Weathers Collide

I wish the cooler weather was here, the rain is OK, but not the heat! Fingers crossed for some cooler weather next week, otherwise it will be mostly indoors for me… At least I've got Internet!

First Day in Brazil

It's been a couple of days since I've finally arrived in Brazil. After crossing an ocean (the Atlantic) the plane approached Fortaleza, clouds here and there and a warm but comfortable 26 degrees Celsius warmed the air. The landing is one of my favorites, nothing like the landings in airports such as Heathrow where the plane sometimes gets set on a holding pattern.

It is also great to see the family waiting for you as you leave the arrivals door, the ones I haven't seen for almost 2 years.…

Missing My Other Home: Fortaleza, Brazil

For those who closely know me, they also known that I am half Bahraini and half Brazilian (my mother's side). As a result, I am quite fluent in Portuguese (the language in Brazil is NOT Brazilian…) thanks to my mother (the speaking part) and kids comics I used to buy by the tons in Brazil when I was a kid (the reading and writing part). Since half my family is in Brazil, I visit my mother's hometown of Fortaleza (in the state of Ceara) every year, mostly during the summer months of June through late August.…
