Goodbye Brazil… Hello Home

Today is my last day in Fortaleza, Brazil. Although I have not done much tourism wise (not exactly a tourist after all), I have enjoyed the warmth and hospitality of this great country. The past month and a half I met family and friends that I haven't seen for a couple of years, experienced rain that I have never ever seen in my life, enjoyed great food and simply relaxed.…

When Weathers Collide

Here I am in Brazil (Fortaleza to be exact) and it seems like the week will be hot with lots of rain:

Then I compare the weather here with Bahrain's:

I wish the cooler weather was here, the rain is OK, but not the heat! Fingers crossed for some cooler weather next week, otherwise it will be mostly indoors for me… At least I've got Internet!

First Day in Brazil

It's been a couple of days since I've finally arrived in Brazil. After crossing an ocean (the Atlantic) the plane approached Fortaleza, clouds here and there and a warm but comfortable 26 degrees Celsius warmed the air. The landing is one of my favorites, nothing like the landings in airports such as Heathrow where the plane sometimes gets set on a holding pattern.

It is also great to see the family waiting for you as you leave the arrivals door, the ones I haven't seen for almost 2 years.…

A New Chapter Begins!

Just a couple of hours ago I bid farewell to my last class. It has been a long and somewhat tiring number of years. I slacked the first couple of years, but I partly blame that on the registration system we used to have (imagine everyone registering for classes in ONE day!). Then came the courses which were only offered during the summer, which I skipped in order to visit Brazil.…

Missing My Other Home: Fortaleza, Brazil

For those who closely know me, they also known that I am half Bahraini and half Brazilian (my mother's side). As a result, I am quite fluent in Portuguese (the language in Brazil is NOT Brazilian…) thanks to my mother (the speaking part) and kids comics I used to buy by the tons in Brazil when I was a kid (the reading and writing part). Since half my family is in Brazil, I visit my mother's hometown of Fortaleza (in the state of Ceara) every year, mostly during the summer months of June through late August.…

(Almost) End of the Year Updates

Oh boy where to start?!

For some reason, to me, this year seemed to have passed real quick. I know its still November, but before I know it, it will probably be December 31. This year was probably the bumpiest one yet for me.

Firstly, there were (and still are) all these revolutions going on in the region. As far as the subject goes I will stop there, I like to keep a politically free atmosphere.…

Back From Brazil…

After just over a month in Brazil I have safely returned to Bahrain. If only I could turn back time and start the trip all over :-)!

Brazil’s loss against the Netherlands (that day it seemed Brazil went into mourning), beautiful beaches, wonderful food, remote towns where electricity is available through a generator from 6-10pm and zero Internet and phone coverage, and much more.

The thing I miss the most is the much cooler temperature :-s!!…
